Proof of Eligibility

Video Transcript:

To receive eligibility based adult services, you'll need a lot of documentation to provide proof of eligibility. You'll need these documents to receive VR services, but other agencies might require them too, like the deaf and hard of hearing state agency. In addition to proof of your disability, there's a few other documents you'll need. You'll need your social security card, SSI verification letter, and state issued driver's license or ID card. Don't forget to bring all of these with you to your appointment. On this note, don't think you'll have to wait until you're 18 to apply for social security income, you can even apply if you're under 18, the process is quite extensive and can take a long time. It's best to start early. Once you send in your application, it will take a while before you get your verification letter. But once you have it, you are set. You can take that straight to VR. I just went through and explained all the different paperwork you'll need to have at the ready for adult services. They include things like ID, proof of disability, proof of eligibility and others. Keep in mind that the exact paperwork will vary from state to state. That's why you should start gathering info about your States VR agency as early as possible. See if there's a VR office nearby you can visit. If not, perhaps you can call email or even VP with them, so do your research early. Remember the advice and statements given in this presentation are generalized. The specific requirements of your state might be different than what is stated here. Every state has its own requirements, so be assertive, do the research and check in with your local VR agency early. Time is precious and it's always best to start early. Putting this off until after high school can cause serious delays and the provision of services. Start getting the info you need now.
