Ensuring Access to Print, Media and Technology
Participants completing this course will learn strategies that have been proven to be effective in advocating for optimal access to print media and technology. Sample accommodations include specific software programs. an adaptive technology will be shared as well as personal experiences.
Learner completing this course will be able to:
- Identify and clearly explain the accommodations, tools and or services they require for optimal access to printed materials (i.e. print size, paper color, braille, text to be interpreted in ASL, digital format.
- Identify and clearly explain the accommodations, tools and or services they require for optimal access to multimedia (i.e. braille keyboard or magnification software).
- Find, purchase and utilize any specialized equipment, systems or services that may be needed to access print or multimedia.
- Educate those around them on how to provide the accommodations required to receive optimal access to print and multimedia.
- Identify and describe the laws that protect their right to equal access to print/multimedia and in what situations provision of these accommodations are required by law versus voluntary.
- Identify and describe strategies for what to do when their preferred accommodations are unavailable or need to be modified.
- Explain how to get support when access is denied.
- List and describe the steps for filing a complaint related to print and multimedia access.
